How do I perform network upgrade for Kubuntu Desktops from version 8.10 to 9.04 over the Internets / network?

To upgrade from 8.10 to Kubuntu 9.04, over the Internet, use the following procedure.
Click on the update notifier icon when it prompts that a new version is available, or press alt-F2 and run the following command:
update-notifier-kde -u

Kubuntu Upgrade Notifier

Click Yes to start the upgrade.
Follow the prompts i.e. on-screen instructions.
